Stakeholder co-operation

Mandatum’s sustainability themes are also visible in Mandatum’s stakeholder co-operation.

Mandatum’s way of carrying out stakeholder co-operation is based on collaboration and listening to key stakeholders and keeping them informed. At Mandatum, responsibility for stakeholder co-operation is diversified, which means that each business function or unit has its own related responsibilities. Continuous dialogue with stakeholders allows Mandatum to know what the stakeholders consider important and what is expected of Mandatum as a company.

Since 2017, Mandatum has worked together with WWF Finland to promote responsible investing and to mitigate climate change.

Mandatum strives to promote sustainable development and the adoption of the UN PRI Principles in the investment sector, also through partnerships with organisations and foundations, including Finland’s Sustainable Investment Forum (Finsif), Finance Finland and GRESB. Mandatum is also a member of the FIBS corporate responsibility network.

Mandatum is an investor member in the activities of Finnish Venture Capital Association (FVCA) through the association’s various working groups (e.g. regulation, sustainable finance and ESG) as an ordinary or deputy member.

Mandatum collaborates with educational institutions and takes part in various fairs and seminars.

Donations

Mandatum has donation guidelines that steer the company’s donations and other humanitarian actions. Mandatum’s Board of Directors approves donations on a case-by-case basis as stipulated in the Insurance Companies Act.

Mandatum co-operates with the Tukikummit foundation to help children and adolescents at risk of exclusion due to financial reasons in Finland. The company donates accident insurance policies to children in need. The co-operation began in 2014 and by 2022 close to 4,000 children have received accident insurance.

Voluntary work

Mandatum has a programme for its employees’ voluntary work and HR administration is in charge of arranging the voluntary work. Each year, employees can use eight working hours for voluntary work, for example at charity organisations. This could involve offering professional expertise to someone in need of it or providing some other kind of support in an area important to the employee.

Tax footprint

Mandatum is a major and responsible taxpayer and complying with tax obligations is an important part of the Group companies’ business and responsibility. Mandatum was the single largest corporate tax payer in the financial sector in 2017–2021, with a total of EUR 301.9 million paid in corporate tax during this period.

Mandatum operates openly and responsibly in all areas of tax and works closely with tax authorities to ensure that all tax payments are fair and follow legislation.
